Veitchia Joannis. Fiji Palm.
The Veitchia Joannis is a beautiful and graceful palm. A slender smooth solitary trunk grey in colour, is ringed with prominent leaf scars and topped with a crownshaft of up to 120cm when mature, which is swollen at its base. The crown itself is made up of between 8-10 long elegant pinnate leaves dark green on both upper and lower surfaces with prominent midribs. Each arching leaf has 70-80 pairs of long drooping leaflets with serrated tips, growing from the rachis on a single plane. The main difference between Veitchia Joannis and other Veitchias is as the leaves age they droop below the horizontal.  
Relatively fast growing given perfect conditions, this palm is very tropical looking and very handsome. A great one for the collectors. Can be grown outside during Summer.
