Vatricania Guentheri Cactus. Red Foxtail Cactus.
The Vatricania Guentheri Cactus is a shrubby columnar variety of cacti which branch with maturity from the base forming up to 15 branches. This perennial evergreen succulent only reach heights of around 2m and the pale green erect stems 10cm in diameter have 27 ribs with areoles spaced around 1cm apart housing 15-25 spines which are 5-22mm long. Also known as the Red Foxtail Cactus it exhibits varying degrees of lateral Cephalium (reddish-brown woolly hairs) which can be up to 50cm long on the sides of the branches, from which the flowers and fruit come from.    

 Yellowish-white flowers are funnel shaped and around 5-6cm in diameter

Perfect for Cacti enthusiasts. Very easy to grow and really difficult and rare to find for sale at this size in the UK.

    Origin: Eastern Bolivia (Southern America).

    Hardiness: Hardy down to -4

    Growth Characteristics: Evergreen, perennial columnar Cactus. Branching ocurs from the base. Stems pale green in colour with 27 ribs. Woolly whitish-yellow coloured areoles each bearing 15-25 spines 5-22mm in length. Edible fruit. Yellowish-whitish funnel shaped flowers. Varying amounts of Cephalia(reddish-brown wool) grow on the sided of the branches. Drought tolerant once established. Easy to grow. Relatively fast.

    Sun: Full sun/partial shade.

    Exposure: Sheltered.

    Soil: Fertile. Well drained soil. Gritty. 

    Moisture: Water more in summer and during growing period. Allow to dry between waterings. Keep dry in winter. 

    Feeding: Feed through the warmest months.
