Tetrapanax Papyrifer 'Rex'. Chinese Rice Paper Plant

The Tetrapanax Papytifer 'Rex' is arelatively fast growing exotic looking woody shrub or small tree. Topping upright stems are very large fresh green leaves, leathery in texture and palmately lobed with between five to nine deep finger-like lobes and growing up to 1 meter across they are perfect for any tropical planting schemes. New shoots and leaves are coated in fine pale brown hairs. In Autumn large sprays of small delicate creamy white flowers are produced pom-pom like and followed by black fruit.

Tolerant of coastal exposure and urban pollution and if kept frost free it will be evergreen, but this plant will recover well even if touched by freezing weather as it will regrow from the roots. This is a great plant for bringing a tropical effect to a border or indeed as a stand alone specimen in a decorative pot also.

These specimens are exceptional quality from specialist growers. Photos 1-2 show some of the plants in coming into stock from Spring 2024. Please Note: Heights stated include pot sizes.
