Psidium Cattleianum. Strawberry Guava Trees.
The Psidium Cattleianum , commonly known as the Strawberry Guava Tree is a highly branched small compact tree with smooth grey to reddish- brown bark and is closely related to the common Guava. The oval shaped leathery leaves are a rich green in colour, smooth and glossy up to 4.5cm in length. The fruit production begins from around the age of 3 years old with pretty 'frilly' white fragrant flowers being produced in late Spring followed by round fruits of up to 4cm in diameter, the thin skin becoming red-purple when they are ripe. The flesh is deliciously aromatic and sweet similar to the flavour of a strawberry and full of Vitamin C. Can be eatern raw or great for making into, smoothies, jams and jellies too. Self fertile.
