Phormium 'Black Adder'. Flax Lily 'Black Adder'.
The Phormium 'Black Adder, also known as the Flax Lily is one of the easiest exotics to grow. Really striking, this compact, clump forming evergreen perennial has long, sword shaped upright leaves, a rich and glossy deep purple almost black in colour. Tubular red flowers appear on long spikes above the foliage throughout the summer when the plants are mature enough. Tolerant of wind and salty air it is great for coastal positions.
Cold hardy down to -10 degrees, it provides great architectural interest and fantastic contrasts in your garden, great if you,re looking for a stylish contemporary feel. Perfect for growing in pots too. It is one of the newer forms of Phormium.
