Oreocereus Leucotrichus Cactus. Old Man Of The Andes Cactus.
The Oreocereus Leucotrichus Cactus is a very decorative variety of cacti but can be a very variable species. A shrubby columnar cactus characterized by having a dense covering of fine silky white-black hairs, denser on younger stems, which acts as a woolly coat when growing in its native habitat at high altitudes. Cylindrical green to grey-green stems have 10-15 closely set smooth ribs. 1-4 stout central spines, yellowish to maroon to orange in colour are gently curved and are 2-8cm in length whereas the radial spines are around 15mm long.

When mature enough plants will produce red and purple coloured funnel shaped flowers in small groups near the tops of the stems, up to 5-10cms long followed by small fruit. The flowers open during the daytime. The Old Man Of The Andes Cactus make a beautiful specimen, perfect for Cacti enthusiasts. Very difficult to find for sale at this size in the UK.
