The Opuntia Polyacantha 'Rubra' is a dense shrubby tree-like variety of cactus. The flat branching pads are more elongated in shape than some other Opuntias and mid green in colour. Small areoles are widely spaced across the pads with 1-2 yellowish straight spines. Relatively long lasting reddish orange flowers appear in Summer followed by red-purple egg shaped edible fruit.Very easy to keep, great for growing in pots, needing minimal maintenance. Very attractive and durable.

Common Name: riickly Pear.
Origin: Mexico.
Hardiness: Hardy down to -3 degrees or lower if kept dry.
Growth Characteristics: Very easy to grow. Tree-like shrubby cactus. Blue-green, flat elongated paddle shaped pads. 1-2 spines come from each areole which are widely spaced across the pads. Long lasting red-orange flowers followed by red-purple fruit. Require little maintenance.
Sun: Full sun.
Exposure: Exposed/sheltered.
Soil: Well drained soil. Gritty.
Moisture: Water during growing season. Keep dry in winter.
Feeding: Feed during summer with a balanced liquid cactus fertilizer.
