Myrtillocactus Geometrizans Cactus. Blue Myrtle Cactus
The Myrtillocactus Geometrizans Cactus is a columnar tree-like variety of cacti. Candelabra like branching occurs freely at the top as it matures. Attractive blue-green stems are between 7-10cm in diameter, usually with 5 but occasionally 6 ribs. Areoles are spaced between 1.5 -3cm apart, each containing up to 5-9 spines but generally 3-5 between 5-12mm long.
Small greenish-white flowers occur from February to April and last for one day to be followed by very sweet oblong shaped edible fruits, dark red in colour.

Latin Name: Myrtillocactus Geometrizans
Common Name: Blue Myrtle Cactus, Blueberry cactus, Blue Flame, Billberry Cactus, Whortleberry Cactus, Blue Candle
Origin: Central and Northern Mexico.
Hardiness: -4 for short periods but better kept frost free .
Growth Characteristics: Columnar Cactus. Grows up to between 4-5m in habitat. Branches freely. Blue-green in colour with 5 or 6 ribs. Areoles spaced between 1.5-3cm apart. Generally 3-5 spines. Small flowers, greenish white in colour. Edible blue berries. Easy to grow.
Sun: Full sun.
Soil: Well drained soil. Gritty.
Moisture: Water more in summer and during growing period. Allow to dry between waterings. Do not allow to sit in water. Keep dry in winter.
