Litchi Chinensis Sonn. Litchi Trees.
The Litchi Chinensis Sonn. is a very ornamental evergreen fruit bearing tree with a dense round crown topping a smooth grey trunk when mature. Leaves are pinnate with between 4-8 pairs, reddish in colour when young but then becomming bright green and shiny being between 5-7cm long. Slow growing the fruit production begins from around the age of 8 years of age. A branched panicle of small yellowish-white flowers are followed by clusters of very attractive fruit with a pink to strawberry coloured leathery rind, 25mm or slightly larger in size. The flesh is translucent white, firm and juicy with a delicious flavour which can be eatern raw or cooked.

Latin Name: Litchi Chinensis Sonn.
Common Name: Litchi Tree.
Origin: South China. Malaysia. Northern Vietnam.
Hardiness: Frost Tender. Keep between 5-15 degrees C.
Growth: Evergreen ornamental fruit tree with bright green pinnate leathery leaves. When mature a dense crown tops a smooth grey trunk. Panicles of small yellowish-white white flowers. Clusters of small fruit with a pink-strawberry colour leathery rind containing a firm juicy translucent flesh with a delicious flavour. For fruit production the tree must be exposed to temperatures between 0-12 degrees for around ten days before moving back to the warmth
Sun: Full sun/partial shade.
Exposure: Sheltered.
Soil: Well drained deep fertile soil rich with organic matter .
Moisture: Water deeply, then let the surface dry to several inches before watering again.
