Lagerstroemia Indica 'Best Red'.
The Lagerstroemia Indica is a deciduous tree or shrub producing masses of vibrantly coloured flowers. The flowers of the 'Best Red' are a very showy vibrant red colour with slightly waxy petals produced in clusters at the ends of the branches from July until October. The foliage itself is an exceptional colour, close to black which contrasts beautifully against the colourful flowers. The branches are a smooth glossy light brownish-pink giving interest even through the winter months. Perfect for adding showstopping colour to gardens, in pots on a patio, courtyard, terrace or even a balcony. This variety only grows to around 3m tall.

Origin: Asia. Australia. Japan.
Hardiness: Root hardy to -15 degrees. Will regrow from the roots if a partiularly harsh winter.
Growth Characteristics: Slow growing. Woody perennial. Vibrant red clusters of flowers at the ends of the branches from summer to Autumn. Near black foliage in summer becoming yellow-orange before falling off before Winter. Smooth glossy branches.
Sunlight: Full sun/partial shade.
Pruning: Prune in early Spring before the new growth starts as this encourages more flowers.
Soil: Fertile, well drained soil.
Moisture: Water regularly during growing season.
Feeding: Feed in Spring with feed formulated for plants such as azaleas and rhododendrons.
