The Ilex Mutchagara 'Nellie R Stevens' is a cross between Ilex Cornuta and Ilex Aquifolium.Slow growing it can reach 4-5m in time. Glossy green prickly leaves can be up to 4 inches long and leathery in texture. Insignificant small white-green flowers are followed by a long lasting heavy crop of berries which become bright red around mid November. It is low maintenance and hardy throughout the UK.
Grown and shaped into a cone it gives a striking effect when next to a doorway or pathway especially at Christmas, and it is equally suited to growing in the open ground or in planters.
