Fargesia 'Jiuzhaigou 1' is a recently introduced and relatively rara striking bamboo. Hardy down to -20 degrees or lower and a very well behaved non-evasive clump forming variety, it keeps its foliage even during harsh winters. The straight slender canes elegantly arch, are green in colour when they emerge but gradually turn through orange to red. New shoots appear in Springtime. The foliage is slender and elegant a dark green in colour. Relatively fast growing reaching an eventual height of around 3-4m they are great for providing both a visual and a sound barrier in the shape of a hedge. Alternatively they look spectacular and exotic with all the various shades of canes, as a single specimen plant in a smaller garden.

Growth Characteristics: Very pretty relatively new and rare variety evergreen bamboo. In Spring -Summer slender upright canes emerge green and turn through orange to red. Masses of lush dark green dainty leaves even through winter. Non evasive clump forming variety. No Bamboo Barrier needed. Undemanding plant.
Sunlight: Full sun/partial shade. Colour is more pronounced in direct sunlight.
Exposure: Shelter from drying winds.
Soil: Fertile. Well drained
Moisture: Keep moist epecially through the growing period, but avoid water- logging.
