Eriobotrya Japonica. Loquat Trees

The Eriobotrya Japonica Tree, more commonly known as the Loquat Tree brings a tropical look to any garden all year round. Evergreen and winter hardy it is mostly grown for it's foliage in the UK with huge and impressive dark green oval shaped leathery leaves, velvety on the undersides and deeply veined. New growth in April/May is a paler green giving an attractive contrast against the older dark leaves. In some milder areas after a hot summer it can produce clusters of very fragrant white flowers in Autumn/Winter followed by edible fruit which ripen in spring and early summer. Very easy to grow and tolerant of salt and urban pollution, so perfect for city gardens and coastal ones too.

Has received the RHS Award for Garden Merit.
