Colocasia Esculenta 'Illustris'. 

The Colocasia Esculenta 'Illustris' is a very impressive tuberous clump forming perennial. Magnificent huge heart-shaped leaves droop downwards, are blackish-purple in colour with contrasting lime green veins growing up to 90cm long. This impressive foliage provides a wonderful backdrop to richly coloured flowers in any garden. Pale yellow flowers can be produced in summer but not always. Frost tender it is perfect for growing in containers and placing into a border through summer to give it a tropical look and then moving indoors through winter. These specimens are exceptional quality.

    Origin: Malaysia.

    Hardiness: Protect from frost.

    Growth Characteristics: Fast Growing. Very stylish and impressive perennial. Large blackish-purple heart-shaped leaves with lime green veins on long stems droop downwards can be up to 90cm long. Plants can reach 3.5ft tall. More sun makes the leaves more dramatic in colour. Pale yellow flowers can be produced in summer but not always. Easy to grow. 

    Sunlight: Full sun/partial shade.

    Exposure: Sheltered from wind. 

    Soil: Rich fertile soil moisture retentive soil.

    Moisture: Very thirsty plants, keep moist through summer. Dry in winter.

    Feeding: Feed regularly in summer.
