Blechnum Brasiliense 'Volcano'. Dwarf Brazilian Tree Fern.
The Blechnum Brasiliense 'Volcano' Fern has only recently been introduced into the UK. It is a delicate and elegant plant and a perfect addition to providing a tropical look for an area prone to shade for much of the day. Stiff pinnate fronds have a slightly 'crimped' appearance and gracefully arch, forming an attractive symmetrical rosette with new fronds emerging an intense pinkish-red colour before turning to more of a bronze before finally turning to a glossy green.
Relatively fast growing, it will develop a slender trunk as it matures. A very interesting and pretty plant these ferns also make a stunning pot plant.

Latin Name: Blechnum Brasiliense 'Volcano'.
Common Name: Red Brazilian Tree Fern. Dwarf Brazilian Tree Fern. Red Dwarf Tree Fern. Deer Fern. Hard Fern.
Origin: Brazil. Peru.
Hardiness: -3 degrees. Ideally needs winter protection or bringing indoors.
Growth: 'Crimped' pinnate glossy green fronds. Will develop a slender trunk. New leaves are an intense pinkish-red colour. Mulch well in winter. May suffer dieback in winter but usually new fronds will grow in spring out of the old trunk.
Sun: Full Shade/Partial shade.
Exposure: sheltered.
Soil: requires good drainage.
Moisture: Water regularly. Keep moist during the growing season.
