Agaves are amazing exotic, extremley drought tolerant plants. Native to Mexico and the North, Central and South of the United States, they are a very popular ornamental plants in the UK.
The Agave Univittata 'Quadricolor' is a relatively small form of Agave, but at the same time a very ornamental and pretty one. Fleshy arching leaves are arranged in rosettes and characterised with bold stripes; dark green in the centre with a paler green mid stripe and golden yellow edges. Dark reddish teeth are present along their margins. In the cold the leaves take on shades of pink-red hence the name 'quadricolor'. Although slow growing offsets are produced and after many years when mature enough tall spikes of pale yellow bell shaped flowers appear.
Great for exotic gardens and easy to grow but it will need winter protection.
