Agave Isthmensis. Group Agaves
The Agave Isthmensis is a very beautiful and attractive agave closely related to Agave Potatorum. Smallish in size, only reaching a diameter of around 36cm it is charcterized by thick, fleshy obovate leaves( narrower towards the base, broadest near the tip) in a striking powder-grey blue colour, forming compact symmetrical rosettes. The leaves have beautiful and unique imprinted patterns on their surfaces left by the teeth along their margins. The teeth are only small but quite sharp, starting out reddish brown in colour but darkening as they mature. Be mindful of where to plant as each leaf also has a sharp terminal point.

The Agave Isthmensis offsets readily and many are produced. Mature offsetts produce a flower stalk reaching up to 7ft tall with short side branches bearing clusters or small yellow flowers. A very interesting and ornamental Agave, it is easy to grow but slow, great for exotic gardens.
