Yucca Bacata. Banana Yucca. 
The Yucca Bacca is a striking but relatively slow growing evergreen yucca which doesn't grow as tall as some of other the other varieties only reahing around 3ft. It is usually stemless but with age it can sometimes grow in clumps with shortish reclining stems.

It's greyish-blue green leaves are concave in profile, rigid with spiky tips, between 2-3ft long and are arranged in an attractive symmetrical rosettes with thick creamy white fibres present along their margins. 
Creamy white flowers with purple tinges appear on spikes above the foliage in Spring are then followed by fleshy edible fruit which are shaped like a greenish-purple banana, hence its common name of the Banana Yucca. A beautiful Yucca, that is very easy to keep and needs minimal maintenance.

    Native to: Northern Mexico. South Western USA.

    Hardiness: Hardy down to -10 degrees or lower if kept dyish through winter with good drainage.

    Growth Characteristics: Evergreen slow growing yucca. Usually solitary but can clump with age. Greyish bluish-green rigid foliage concave in profile between 2-3ft long with attractive thick white marginal threads are arranged in an attractive rosette. Spikes of densely clustered creamy white flowers with purple tinges followed by banana shaped edible fleshy fruit.

    Sunlight: Full sun/partial shade.

    Exposure: Exposed/Sheltered. Does not tolerate coastal exposure.

    Soil: Well drained soil. Gritty.

    Moisture: Water sparingly. Keep dry in winter.
