Pedilanthus Macrocarpa. Slipper Plant.
The Pedilanthus Macrocarpa is an unusual and structural succulent plant. Vertical fleshy stems around up to 2.5cm thick are lime green in colour and are tapered towards the tip and coated in a waxy substance called Candelilla  which means 'little candle'. It spreads outwards by new stems emerging from the roots to form tight clumps reaching up to 3ft tall. If they are grown in the shade they may start to bend over when they reach this sort of height. Leaves are mostly absent or very tiny and inconspicuous. In mid Summer to Autumn curious orange red slipper shaped flowers appear along the stems which are often followed by small reddish fruit.  A very contemporary and modern looking plant that is really easy to look after.
