Oreocereus Trollii Cactus. Old Man Of The Mountain Cactus.
The Variegated Orecereus Trollii Cactus has all the charcteristics of the normal Trollii but has very attractive creamy coloured markings. The Oreocereus Trollii Cactus is a very decorative variety of cacti but can be quite variable. A shrubby columnar cactus, which given time will branch at the base, it is characterized by having a dense covering of fine 'white hair', which acts as a woolly coat when growing in its native habitat at high altitudes. Cylindrical light green stems have 15-25 closely set ribs with 5-9 stout central spines, yellow/orange or orange/red in colour gently curving, up to 5cm in length, long enough to poke through the wool. The 10-15 radial spines have evolved to provide the dense enveloping 'wool'.When mature enough plants will produce pink-violet red coloured flowers during Summer.
The Old Man Of The Mountain Cactus make a beautiful specimen, perfect for Cacti enthusiasts. Very difficult to find for sale at this size in the UK.
