Musa Basjoo 'Sakhalin'.   

The Musa Basjoo 'Sakhalin' is a more compact and stocky form of the regular Basjoo with slightly shorter and wider leaves. It is also reported that it is more cold hardy. These amazing plants bring a tropical feeling to any garden with large exotic sail-like foliage, lush green in colour giving an instant impact and a sense of the 'jungle'.  

Fast growing and easy to grow just water and feed generously during the growing season. Root hardy it can either be wrapped or dug up and stored dry in winter.

Best kept sheltered from strong winds to avoid the leaves shredding.

  • Latin Name: Musa Basjoo 'Sakhalin'.

    Common Name: Japanese Hardy Banana. Banana 'Sakhalin'. 'Sakalin' Hardy Banana.

    Origin: China

    Hardiness: Root hardy down to -16 degrees. Pseudo stem down to -7 degrees but leaves will die back at -2 degrees. The pseudo stem will need winter protection above ground.

    Growth: Very fast growing. Huge exotic paddle-shaped leaves, lush green in colour. Slightly more compact then Musa Basjoo. Easy to grow. 

    Sun: Full sun/partial shade.

    Exposure: Sheltered.

    Soil: Well drained soil.

    Moisture: Water well in summer.

    Feed: Feed weekly in the growing season with high nitrogen feed.
